On October 13th, 2017, 27 members went on a historical series tour III to Deoksugung Palace. The series tour started from the trip to Kyungbokgung Palace (April 24th), trip to Yeoju via Hongeu-neung(June 13th), and it was successfully wrapped with the tour of Deoksugung Palace, Jungmyeongjeon Hall, and Hwangudan. The last period of Josun Dynasty was in chaos due to the conflict among several countries.

Originally Emperor Gojong resided in Gyeongbokgung Palace. But after the assassination of Empress Myeongseong, the Emperor declared the Daehan Empire in 1897 and started renovating and expanding Deoksugung Palace into imperial one. The Japanese ,however, forced Korean ministers to sign the Eulsaneukyak in Jungmyeongjeon Hall, and Emperor lost his power and was forced to the dethronment in 1907.

Hamnyeongjeon was the Emperor’s residence and it’s the place where he passed away.

Members got educated with all the information and also had a chance to sit in Jungmyeongjon Hall and had some tea speculating what would have happened if they had been there themselves.

It was such a lovely autumn day and we ended the tour with some delicious noodle soup and some dessert afterwards.
