Welcome to Korea International Club had its spring tour on historic places with the theme of King Jeongjo during the Joeson Dynasty. Yongsu sa temple and Yungneung and Geolleung Rotal tombs with Hwasung Heunggueng were the main destination. Honorary Emperor Jangjo (Crown Prince Sado) was the second son of King Yeongjo and father of King Jeongjo. He was smart and excelled in calligraphy and martial arts from an early age, so his father had him handle state affairs when still the crown prince. During his regency he came into conflic witht he Old Doctrin faction, which led to his miserable death at 28. In 1762 King Yeongjo granted him the posthumous epithet Sado, meaning remembrance and lamentation. On our way there, we stopped by the Ho-am Art Museum, which is a popular destination for tourists who desire to enjoy a theme park and artwork at the same time. The art gallery is available on the second floor of a traditional hanok building, showcasing artwork from the pre-historic age to contemporary era. About 100 of Korea’s national treasures are on display along with Buddhist art, calligraphy, folk paintings, ceramics and other various pieces. This time they had a special exhibition of Jeong Seon, the master painter of the late Joseon period. Driven by his boundless affection for Korea's landscapes, he infused traditional painting styles of the past with innovative techniques of the present to create the unique genre of true-view landscapes. The Samsung Foundation of Culture and the Kansong Art and Culture foundation jointly hosted the exhibition and no one wanted to miss it. What a fancy trip. 21 members were mesmerized by the beauty of the art work. Friday May 16th will be long remembered .
