The Welcome to Korea International Club (WKIC) participated in the Welcome Clubs International (WCI) Conference held in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from April 26 to 30, 2026.
Under the theme "Empowering Women through Education and Cultural Heritage: A Multidimensional Framework for Sustainable Development," the conference was held at The Westin Hotel in Jakarta. Women leaders and members from various countries attended the event to discuss ways to promote women's rights and interests and to strengthen international cooperation.
On the first day, April 26, a welcome dinner was held following participant registration. Subsequently, the WCI Executive Committee meeting convened to discuss future projects and cooperation plans. On April 27, the opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks, cultural performances, and a commemorative photo session. This was followed by a panel discussion on the theme "Empowering Women through Education and Cultural Heritage: A Multidimensional Framework for Sustainable Development," where participants shared diverse perspectives on how expanding educational opportunities for women and preserving cultural heritage impact sustainable social development. During the WCI Board of Directors meeting in the afternoon, where clubs from each country reported on their activities, Sunny Shin, the Secretary General of WKIC, delivered a presentation on the association's activities. In the evening, participants interacted and strengthened their networks during a gala dinner.
On April 28, participants visited the Jakarta City Hall for a meeting with the Governor, followed by a city tour of Jakarta's major cultural and historical landmarks. Participants experienced Indonesia's cultural and religious diversity by visiting the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta Cathedral, Istiqlal Mosque, and the Friendship Tunnel. Afterward, they toured the National Museum to deepen their understanding of Indonesian history and culture. In the evening, they attended a welcome event at the clubhouse of the Women’s International Club Jakarta.
On April 29, the delegation moved to Yogyakarta and visited Giriloyo, a traditional Batik craft village. Participants were introduced to case studies of women's empowerment and heard about the activities of the local women's community. They then participated in a Batik-making workshop, directly experiencing the value of traditional Indonesian culture. The participants were able to witness firsthand how the traditional handicraft industry contributes to women's economic independence and community development.
On the final day, April 30, the group visited the Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to explore Indonesia's iconic cultural heritage. In the afternoon, they visited the Paku Alam Royal Palace in Yogyakarta, where they interacted with members of the royal family and exchanged views on traditional culture and the role of women. Following a palace tour and a traditional dance performance, the five-day itinerary concluded with a closing ceremony and a gala dinner. This conference served as a meaningful platform to promote international cooperation while sharing the values of women's empowerment and cultural heritage.
